ORSNET stands for Oceania Regional Seismic NETwork, which gathers seismic networks of island countries of the South West Pacific. This enables participating countries to obtain faster seismic alerts, usually within minutes. Current participating countries are:
- New Caledonia;
- Vanuatu;
- Solomon islands;
- Papua New Guinea;
- Fidji;
- Tonga;
- Samoa.
ORSNET will eventually include about up to 60 stations, covering most seismically active zones (ring of fire) of the South West Pacific.
New Caledonia data is public and freely available in particular at rtserve.iris.washington.edu. To access other countries’ data, you must request it to the country whose data you are interested in (IRD centre can do this for you).
ORSNET seismic alerts are available on IRD website (www.seisme.nc), or following our Twitter account (@NCSeismicobserv).
